MAC has an immediate opening for a Governmental Affairs Associate. The Governmental Affairs Associate provides administrative and research support to MAC’s Governmental Affairs Director (DGA) and Governmental Affairs Specialist, with a key focus on monitoring bills, the legislative calendar and planning and staffing internal MAC committee meetings.  MAC is the only statewide organization dedicated to the representation of all county commissioners in Michigan. MAC is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advances education, communication and cooperation among county government officials in Michigan.

Legislative Analyst 9-P11 -- Michigan Department of Education

General Duties:

This position serves as the departmental analyst in the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs providing consultation on the initiatives of the superintendent of public instruction and the department with government agencies and education organizations. These organizations include state and federal associations representing early childhood, school administrators and boards, intermediate school administrators, labor unions, public school academies, community colleges, private school groups, various foundations, and university lobbyists. As a department analyst, this position assists the legislation liaison in all legislative issues, specifically in monitoring legislation in reference to education initiatives and communicating with various MDE offices to review and complete analysis on all assignments relating to education legislation at both the state and federal levels.

Government Relations and Outreach Specialist -- The Senior Alliance

Works on advocacy activities to support and assist with the agency’s external relations strategy. Foster relationships with elected officials and external stakeholders. drafts communications and implements outreach strategies. Works collaboratively with agency staff and external partners on various advocacy and strategic assignments.

Attorney -- Michigan Legislative Council - Legislative Service Bureau

General Duties:

This attorney serves as nonpartisan legal counsel to members of the Michigan Legislature. The attorney is responsible for drafting legislation and advising legislators and their staff on the legalities of legislation and the legislative process. Because of the uniqueness of the position, the attorney will go through a comprehensive training program. The attorney will work in a collaborative team environment and develop areas of subject matter expertise as well as considerable knowledge of the legislative process and legislative drafting standards. The attorney attends legislative committee and workgroup meetings and responds to legal questions concerning legislation from legislators and their staff. In addition to drafting legislation, the attorney may be asked to conduct legal research, analyze legal documents, and write legal memoranda.

Possession of Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with a minimum 3.0 GPA required. Must possess current membership in good standing in the State Bar of Michigan. Previous legal work experience with state statutes, state government operations, and the legislative process helpful. Excellent writing and research skills required, including knowledge of legal research resources. Excellent oral and interpersonal communication skills required, including the ability to work with diverse personalities. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Must be willing and able to work overtime and irregular hours as required.
